Here are the details for our May 1st Women’s Book Circle

Topic: Words Have the Power to Inspire!
Date and Time: Wednesday, May 1st, 2019 at 7:00 pm EST.

Questions for Circle Discussion:

  • What quotes have you turned to through the years (or recently) that supported your journey as a woman?
  • What favorite quote helped you believe in yourself?
  • What does the quote below from Elizabeth Appell mean to you?

“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”  Elizabeth Appell (Not Anais Nin)

The right phrase at the right time stirs our soul

Years ago I was working in a position that offered a great deal of flexibility and I reported to a supervisor that appreciated what I brought to the business.  However, I was in a supporting role rather than a leadership role.  It was a position I enjoyed and being a leader was never a priority.

And then an opportunity to champion a cause presented itself and I knew I could lead this to a successful outcome.  Did I have the courage to present my proposal to the leadership?  Would they see me as competent to lead the project?  Was I ready to deal with opposition and conflict for the good of the cause?  Something inside me said “yes!”

Shortly after I made the decision to go for it, I saw the quote by Elizabeth Appell beautifully framed and knew it spoke to the readiness that my internal “yes” reflected.  It hung in my office for years, reminding me of the moment I knew it was time to open to being my true self.  Saying “yes” opened me to receiving the fullness of what life has to offer.

*The experience of real joy follows those moments of truth when our courage prevails and we take responsibility for the way we live in the world. (From the chapter, “Justified Joy” in The ABC Path toward True Wisdom, P. 69).

How have words inspired you?

One thing I have noticed about many women is that we collect inspiring messages and place them all around us.  I have seen stickies, note cards, and hand written phrases tucked in books, on refrigerators, desks, mirrors, in journals, wallets and car visors.  I’ve seen them framed and strategically placed on shelves and walls in offices and every room in our homes.  We position them anywhere they will be in view to catch our eye as we go about our day.

What quotes or inspiring words nestled into your heart as words to live by?  The questions for discussion are:

  • What quotes have you turned to through the years (or recently) that supported your journey as a woman?
  • What favorite quote helped you believe in yourself?
  • What does the quote from Elizabeth Appell mean to you?
